Szczepan Pluskota Family – Research Summary Part 1

I would like to summarize the records that I’ve found so far, for my 3x great grandparents Szczepan and Urszula Pluskota nee Nadzieja. All the records are from the Kujawy area of Poland. The present day locations are in Gmina Radziejów, Gmina Zakrzewo, and Gmina Bądkowo, all within Kujawsko-Pomorskie Province. The information is derived from the listed records below.

Preface: Currently, the Genealogy in Archives website contains many of the records for the Broniewo Parish. The records that run through 1833-1862 are mostly intact. Only two years are missing (1838 and 1840). Both missing years are available in the LDS Family History Center microfilms. Through my research, I’ve observed that Szczepan and Urszula would reside in the villages of the Broniewo parish until 1856. After this I’ve found records from the Bądkowo and Sędzin parishes. There was a break between child births that was roughly 12 years difference. This makes me believe that there may have been at least one other parish that the family resided, specifically between 1851 to 1861. Once I find this parish and records, I will add them to this summary.

On November 19th, 1833, Szczepan Pluskota and Urszula Nadzieja would marry in the village of Szóstka (1), which belonged to the Broniewo parish. Szczepan was a farmhand who resided in the village of Szóstka. He was the son of Paweł and Rozalia Pluskota nee Sobieraj, he was born in 1813 in the village of Szóstka. Urszula was a young woman who resided in the village of Szóstka with her parents. She was born in 1816, to her parents Bartłomiej and Agnieszka Nadzieja. After the wedding, Szczepan and Urszula would reside in the village of Szóstka (note: there is a 3 year gap between their marriage and their first baptism in the Broniewo parish – there may be another parish to look for).

On November 25th, 1836, the couple would give birth to their son named Andrzej, in the village of Szóstka. The godmother listed was Antonina Fortuna. Antonina was either Szczepan’s sister or another relation. At this time and going forward, Szczepan’s occupation was listed as a farmer. Less than two years later, on August 2nd, 1838, the couple would give birth to their daughter named Marianna, in the village of Szóstka.

On May 6th, 1841, Szczepan and Urszula would have a son named Stanisław, in the village of Szóstka. Exactly two years would pass before their next child was born. On May 6th, 1843, their daughter Antonina was born in the village of Szóstka. Over three years later, the couple would give birth to their next child. On June 14th, 1846, their daughter Julianna was born in the village of Szóstka. In just less than two months, Julianna would pass away in the village of Szóstka, on August 11th, 1846. The couple would give birth to another daughter, her name was Michalina, on September 15th, 1847, in the village of Szóstka. On June 25th, 1850, their son named Piotr was born in the village of Szóstka.

The next entry in the Broniewo parish for the couple would be from 1856. Sometime around 1854, the couple would have a son named Tomasz. Note: I have not found the parish that this took place. I’ve searched through the neighboring parishes that were located in the Russian controlled territory. I am hesitant to think that families moved freely between Prussia and Russia at the time. Unless a neighboring village was located in the Russian partition, but the parish was in the Prussian partition.

On February 6th, 1856, their son Tomasz died in the village of Szóstka. He was two years old. Sometime between 1856 to 1858, Szczepan and Urszula would move their family (the remaining family, from oldest to youngest, were as follows: Andrzej, Marianna, Stanisław, Antonina, Michalina, and Piotr)  to the Sedzin Folwark (2), which belonged to the Sędzin parish. On February 2nd, 1858, Stanisław Pluskota died in the Sedzin Folwark. He was 14 years old.

The family was on the move again, but only temporarily. They moved to the village of Wysocinek (3), which belonged to the Bądkowo parish. On June 28th, 1862, the couple gave birth to their youngest child, Paweł, in the village of Wysocinek. The couple were both nearly fifty years old at the time. On August 12th, 1862, in the village of Wysocinek, their daughter Antonina died. She was 19 years old.

By 1869, Piotr Pluskota was living and working in the Sedzin Folwark. He was a domestic worker. On October 15th, 1869, Piotr would marry Rozalia Wesołowska. They would reside in Kobielice (4) and the Sedzin Folwark to raise their family until Piotr’s untimely death on November 24th, 1871.

Again in 1869, one of Szczepan and Urszula’s children would marry. Michalina Pluskota was aged 22 years old and living in the Sędzin Folwark. She would marry a widower named Walenty Sobczak on September 19th, 1869, in the Sędzin Folwark. The newlyweds would remain here while they started their family.

On September 20th, 1881, Szczepan Pluskota died, he was roughly aged 70 years old. He missed being part of his youngest son’s marriage by a month. On October 20th, 1881, Paweł Pluskota, aged 19, a laborer residing in the village of Sędzin, would marry Rozalia Bielawska in the Sędzin Folwark. Rozalia was aged 25, the daughter of Józef and Marianna Bielawski nee Grzybowska. As a day laborer, Paweł moved his family multiple times throughout Powiat Nieszawa.

Urszula would reside with her daughter until her death. On September 7th, 1899, Urszula would pass away in Sędzin Kolonia (5).
