Portage County, Wisconsin 1875 Census
Hello,
In 1875, the Wisconsin state government administered a state wide census for the counties of Wisconsin. This census listed the head of the house and the number of family members living within the household. The FamilySearch record search website contains an index, along with the images of the actual census. More information, in greater detail, can be found at the FamilySearch research wiki entry for the Wisconsin 1875 State Census Records.
I would like to attempt to create an index for some of the towns within Portage County.
Most of the Polish/Kaszubian names in this county were either Germanized or Americanized. The index that I would like to create would be for both the spellings (incorrect and correct renditions).
I would like to center the index on the towns within Portage County that hosted the majority of the Polish or Kaszubian settlers. Some of these towns were Sharon, Stockton, Hull, Amherst, Alban…..
I am looking for help though. Anyone that has interest or research with the Polish/Kaszubian settlers in Portage County should contact me, if they are interested. I can be reached at alwierz at gmail dot com.
Best Regards,
Al
