St. Hedwig’s Parish of Milwaukee
Hello,
Besides Milwaukee’s Southside, another Polish community emerged in the area of Riverwest. Milwaukee’s second Polish parish was founded at E. Brady st. and N. Humboldt avenue. St. Hedwig’s Parish was established in 1871 by Polish immigrants, mostly from West Prussia. The church pictured below was constructed in 1886. (Borun, Thaddeus, We, the Milwaukee Poles (Milwaukee: Nowiny Publishing Co. 1946)).
St. Hedwig’s church is still in service, but the parish has merged with two other parishes to form the Three Holy Women Parish. More information can be found on Milwaukee’s Archdiocese website: http://www.archmil.org/parishes/ShowParish.asp?ID=293 and at the Three Holy Women Parish website: http://www.threeholywomen.com/.
