Hello,
I would like to add to my new series of posts called “Read it in the Newspapers”. I will try to post one transcribed article taken from a newspaper and about my ancestors every week. The article below is the wedding announcement of my Grand Aunt Susan Wierzba, from the Stevens Point Daily Journal.
Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Wierzba of Custer announce the marriage of their daughter, Susan, to Edward Kozelek of Milwaukee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kozelek of Custer. The wedding was performed Saturday morning, November 6, at 7:45 o’clock at Sacred Heart church at Polonia by Rev. Leo Jankowski. St. Theresa’s choir sang the nuptial mass.
The bride’s gown was made of white brocaded velvet, princess style, with a long train. Her long tulle veil, falling from a cluster of pearls. White sandals completed her costume, and she carried white roses tied with white maline. Her father gave her in marriage.
Miss Virgina Gilmeister, niece of the bride was maid of honor, wearing an aqua blue moire gown with floor length swing skirt, a short train and puffed sleeves. She wore gold sandals and a gold off-the-face hat. Her bouquet of pink roses was tied with aqua blue maline. The bridesmaids were Miss Bertha Kozelek, sister of the groom, Miss Bernadetta Wierzba, sister of the bride, and Miss Evelyn Wierzba, cousin of the bride. They wore dresses of aqua blue moire made like that of the made of honor, and also had gold off-the-face hats and gold sandals. Their flowers were pink roses with blue bows. Ernest Kozelek, cousin of the groom, was the best man, and John Armatoski and Albert Kozelek, brother of the groom, were groomsmen. They wore boutonnieres of pink roses.
The brides mother and the groom’s mother had bouquets of pink asters and roses.
Breakfast, luncheon and dinner were served to 60 families at the home of the bride’s parents. Gagas’ orchestra played for dancing. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Mike Radowicz, Mr. and Mrs. John Pokczwinski and family, and Leo Wierzba of Milwaukee; Miss Evelyn Kozelek of Manitowoc and Leo Kozelek of Star Lake.
The bride and groom are residing at 1511 East Royal Place, Milwaukee. The groom is employed in that city.
