Milwaukee’s Polish Fest 2009

Milwaukee’s Polish Fest 2009 is quickly approaching. The event is located at Milwaukee’s lakefront on the Summerfest grounds and lasts three days long, June 19-21. The dates and times are listed below:
Friday, June 19th: Noon-Midnight
Saturday, June 20th: Noon-Midnight
Sunday, June 21st: Noon-10:00 pm
Besides the food and music, Polish Fest has a great Cultural Village that helps to educated the festival goers about Polish heritage, culture, geneaolgy, and history. The 2009 attractions in the Cultural Village, as taken from the polishfest.org website, are as follows:

UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Poland :
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) lists thirteen places in Poland as World Heritage Sites possessing outstanding cultural or natural value for the common heritage of mankind. A special exhibit from Poland features cultural and natural treasures such as the historic city centers of Kraków and Warsaw, the ancient Wieliczka Salt Mine, the Medieval city of Toruń, the primeval Białowieża Forest, the beautiful Renaissance town of Zamość, the wooden churches of southern Poland, and the castle of the Teutonic Knights in Malbork, as well as the World War II Nazi concentration camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau. Poland’s southern highlands contain some of the country’s most spectacular scenery and colorful folk culture. Polish Fest takes you to the Podhale and Spisz regions at the foot of the Tatra Mountains near Poland’s southern border.

Milwaukee’s Lincoln Avenue :
Special displays tell the story of the magnificent St. Josaphat Basilica and the monument to General Tadeusz Kościuszko, both located on Lincoln Avenue in Milwaukee’s historic Polish neighborhood.
Poles on the Front Lines of World War II :
On the 60th anniversary of the Nazi invasion of Poland that started World War II, Polish Fest honors the Polish soldiers and airmen who fought valiantly to preserve the world’s freedom. A powerpoint presentation of historic photographs illustrates Poland’s contributions to the Allied victory.
Folk Arts :
Polish folk artists demonstrate wycinanki (Polish papercuts), pisanki (decorated eggs), wianki (floral head wreaths) and other traditional handicrafts.
Family History :
Genealogy experts show you how to trace your Polish roots.
Art in the Market Square of Kazimierz Dolny :
Local Polish artists display watercolors, oil paintings, and other works in our recreated market square representing Kazimierz Dolny, a picturesque artists’ colony on the banks of the Vistula River.
Polish Sheepdogs :
Poland’s Highland (Tatra) and Lowland Sheepdogs will be wagging their tails to greet you at Polish Fest.
Polish Forum :
Scholars and writers speak on timely Polish topics.
