Slownik Geograficzny Entry Stawnica #1
Hello,
I have found the entry for the village of Stawnica in the Slownik Geograficzny. Below is my attempt to translate the Polish text to English. I have left out a section on the history that did not seem relevant to my family research.
I have utilized these two books:
Nowy Slownik – New Dictionary – English-Polish/Polish – English written by Tadeusz J. Grzebieniowski and Andrzej Kaznowski
In Their Words: A Genealogist’s Translation Guide to Polish, German, Latin and Russian Documents. Volume 1: Polish written by: Jonathan D. Shea and William F. Hoffman
Any errors in my translation attempt are my own. Below is my translation:
Stawnica 1.) German name Stewnitz.
The village is located above the river Glumia, in the Zlotow powiat . There is a post office and a catholic parish located 6 km away in Zlotow. Stawnica’s land area is about 864 hectares, of that, 605 farms, 136 meadows, and 40 woods.
In the year 1885 there were 66 houses, 89 homesteads, 493 residents, 306 Catholics, 179 Protestants, and 8 Jewish. There is a mill located on Grzymek with 20 residents and 2 houses. Stawnica is located by lakes Piaseczno and Gleboczek and by the meadows Ombrym and Olszynka.
