Indexing Project – Geneteka Part Four

On my last Geneteka post, I had searched for the Kowalski surname within the województwo Kujawsko-Pomerskie church books. Now it’s time to interpret these search results. Below are the baptism, marriage, and death record search results for the Kowalski surname. There are five results listed for baptismal (Urodzenia), marriage (Małżeństwa), and death (Zgony).

I will list the key words or terms listed for each type of result: baptismal (Urodzenia), marriage (Małżeństwa), and death (Zgony).

baptismal (Urodzenia):
L.p. = the search result number
Rok = year
Poz. = indexed item number
Imię Nazwisko = first name, last name
Akt = church record “act” number
Miejscowość = the act happened in this locality
Uwagi = comments
Dodał = lists the person who indexed the record
Wszystkich pozycji = number of items
Rodzice = parents

marriage (Małżeństwa)
L.p. = the search result number
Rok = year
Poz. = indexed item number
Imię Nazwisko = first name, last name
Akt = church record “act” number
Miejscowość = the act happened in this locality
Uwagi = comments
Dodał = lists the person who indexed the record
Wszystkich pozycji = number of items

death (Zgony)
L.p. = the search result number
Rok = year
Akt = church record “act” number
Poz. = indexed item number
Imię Nazwisko = first name, last name

As you see above, baptismal (Urodzenia), marriage (Małżeństwa), and death (Zgony) all use the same terms. Once you familarize yourself with the terms it is easier to gather useful information from this index.

Below is a picture of a baptismal (Urodzenia) search result for the surname Kowalski. The screen shot demonstrates the text box that appears while hovering over Uwagi (comments) icon for a specific entry. In this example the comment states that “the parents are Thomas and Marianna geb. (or nee) Tadejewska.

The screen shot below is another example of how you can “mouse over” the Uwagi (comments) icon to see who the parents were for the birth record. Here is the information that can be gathered from the indexed record below:

In 1884, Agnieszka Kowalski, baptismal number 79, was baptized in the village of Płochocin. Her parents were Paweł Kowalski and Paulina Śliwa.
