Tobiasz Surname in the Straszewo Parish

The other day when I was searching through the Straszewo Parish records I had found the baptismal record of Marianna Tobiasz, the daughter of Michal and Rosalia nee Nowak in 1886. I will decipher the Russian baptismal record and make another post detailing this record in a future post.

One thing that I was have trouble with is finding any Tobiasz records prior to Michal and the year 1885. One thing I did notice was enties for a Tobinski surname. So, after consulting William F. Hoffman’s book entitled Polish Surnames: Orgins and Meanings, I have dicovered that Tobinski is another spelling for Tobiasz. It could be that the parish priest could have recorded the Tobiasz births under the surname Tobinski.

So, I will go back through the Straszewo Parish records and look for the baptismal record of Michal Tobinski (Tobiasz) around the year 1864-1866. Michal’s father should be listed as Ignacy.
