Madness Monday: Catch Us If You Can – The Continuing Adventure of Ignacy Tobiasz and Family
Hello,
In previous posts, I have chronicled my search for my g-g-g-grandfather Ignacy Tobiasz. My documented trail of searches can be found in the posts below:
- Koneck Parish Films: Getting Closer To Solving My Tobiasz Mystery
- Madness Monday: I Thought I had Spotted Ignacy Tobjasz Hiding in the Koneck Parish
- Marriage of Michal Tobiasz and Rozalia Nowak Re-Do (1885)
- Baptism of Mateusz Tobiasz (1853)
On Saturday, I had spent some time at the Brookfield Family History Center (FHC). During this time, I searched through the Siniarzewo Parish films in an attempt to find more baptism and death records for my Andrzejczak family. I did find quite a few documents and was pleased with my discoveries.
While nearing the end of my search, I had came across a baptismal record that I was not expecting to find. The name of a father who was declaring a birth was an IGNACY TOBIASZ! This was a name that I had almost dismissed finding within the Siniarzewo Parish films. I could have sworn that I had checked all of the records (baptism, marriage, and death) for Ignacy Tobiasz. Again, I looked through the films to make sure that I had not missed any others…but my search produced zero results.
The baptism of Mateusz Tobiasz confirmed my translation of the Russian Marriage record of Michał Tobiasz and Rozalia Nowak. Michał and Mateusz both have their parents listed as Ignacy Tobiasz and Zofia Karpik. The baptism year of Mateusz Tobiasz was 1853, while the baptism of Michał Tobiasz is about 1862. Another piece of information known is that Zofia Karpik was listed as still alive on the marriage document of Michał Tobiasz in 1885. So, with this information it is safe to assume that Ignacy and Zofia possibly had more children.
Below is the information that is known regarding this generation of my Tobiasz family:
Parents: Ignacy Tobiasz (born abt 1819) and Zofia Karpik (born abt 1823)
Children:
Mateusz Tobiasz born on 13 Aug 1853 (Ignacy, age 34, Zofia, age 30) residence in Gosławice
Michał Tobiasz born abt 1862 (Ignacy, abt age 44, Zofia, abt age 40) residence in Biesiekierz
Michał Tobiasz and Rozalia Nowak marriage 18 Oct 1885 – residence in Zakrzewo
Personally, I would estimate that Ignacy Tobiasz and Zofia Karpik married about 1843 (Ignacy, age 24, Zofia, age 20). If I estimate that this couple had children for about 20 years, then it would seem logical to assume that they had their children between 1843 and 1863 (give or take a few years). Michał Tobiasz would have been one of their last children.
I have searched the parishes of Straszewo, Siniarzewo, and Koneck for the baptismal record of Michał Tobiasz with no luck. Now, the trick is to find the correct parish that Ignacy and Zofia would have baptized their children. The other parishes that are near Zakrzewo are Sędzin (4-5 km away), Chlewiska (4-5 km away), and Krzywosądz (5-6 km away). One these parishes may have the records that I am seeking. Until then, the madness continues…..
Best Regards,
Al
