Pawel Machajewski and Family’s Passenger Lists (1892)
On April 8, 1892, Paweł Machajewski and his family left the village of Sumin. They journeyed to Hamburg and then headed to North America on the Hamburg passenger ship, via Liverpool. According to the Hamburg passenger list, the family included Paweł, age 50, Katarzyna, age 52, Jan, age 16, Weronika, age 15, Paweł 11, and Teodora, age 10. The Hamburg passenger list entry is below:

On April 23, 1892, the passenger ship Labrador arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia from Liverpool, England. According to the passenger list the Machajewski family included Paweł, age 50, Katarzyna, age 52, Jan, age 16, Weronika, age 15, Paweł 11, and Teodora, age 10. The Labrador passenger list entry is below:
If I view the passenger lists of the Machajewski family as having the most accurate listed ages, then Paweł was born about 1842 and Katarzyna, his wife, was born about 1839. The records could be considered the most accurate of their records after leaving Sumin, because they occurred nearest to the parish records (civil records). The birth dates listed on the 1900 US Census record and on the death record of Paweł Machajewski vary. It seems that many of my ancestors seemingly forgot their birth dates as they lived longer in the United States. More to come regarding my Machajewski and Olszewski families…
