New Projects – Administrative Districts of Prussian Poland
Hello,
I’d like to share an excellent series of posts that were written by Steve Danko, of Steve’s Genealogy Blog. In this series, Steve wrote about the proper naming conventions of the administrative districts throughout the years (1569-1915) in the Poland-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Russian owned Congress Kingdom of Poland. Overall, Steve published eight posts that included a summary. The link to the summary can be found here: Describing Place Names in Poland – A Summary.
Being a history addict, I agree with Steve. I feel that capturing an accurate historical place description can lead to a better understanding of the historical time frame that our ancestors lived. Steve’s posts have inspired me to alter my approach on my descriptions of place names. For any new historical genealogical documents, Słownik Geograficzny Krolestwa Polskiego translations, or any other documents from the past, I will record both the place name during that time and the current location accurately. Also, I will work diligently to re-mediate any of my past entries on this blog or elsewhere.
Another step that I’d like to take is to start a personal project to research and post my findings regarding the naming conventions for places within the eastern portion of the Prussian Kingdom/German Empire. The eastern portion of the Prussian Kingdom/German Empire would include the areas that once comprised the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. I would like to provide information about the administrative districts throughout the Provinces of West Prussia, East Prussia, Posen, Silesia, and Pomerania, after the Partitions of Poland. I will package my research in posts that are meaningful and concise. I have no idea how long this project will take, so stay tuned for updates. Thanks for the motivation Steve!
Best Regards,
Al
