Transcription Project: Birthplace index from Polonia (Portage County) marriage records – Introduction
Hello,
One of the best ways to expand family history research is to share sourced information. Recorded sourced information can be used by family researchers now and in the future. This is one of the reasons why I operate this blog. If I can share my research with others, I may be able to help another researcher overcome a brick wall, find a piece of information that they needed, and/or ultimately connect with family.
In upcoming posts, I am going to share some information that I will transcribe from past research of Polonia, Portage, Wisconsin. Raymond Groshek compiled a typed list of individuals and their birth places, taken from the marriage records of Polonia, Portage, Wisconsin. This list was alphabetically complied. It contained names and birth places. Some of the birth places were generically stated by the individual during their marriage, but others listed the actual village of their birth. Mr. Groshek compiled the list on November 24, 1984. The list was then included into the Emil Kitowski Collection and donated to the library of the Archive Department, of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The collection was then filmed by the LDS. The exact LDS catalog information is as follows: “Birthplace index from Polonia marriage records”, FHL US/CAN Film [ 1421727 Item 4 ], by Raymond L. Groshek.
After I have transcribed the complete list, I will submit it to the Stevens Point Area Genealogical Society (SPAGS). Hopefully this valuable index will be uploaded onto their website and shared by many other researchers of Polonia, Portage County, Wisconsin.
Best Regards,
Al
