My Feelings on Polish Heritage in Milwaukee
Hello,
I am not looking for this article to be a rant or negative post, but I do want my feeling represented. Personally, I come from a family from the south-side of Milwaukee, which was originally predominately Polish. After years of distancing ourselves from being Polish, we lived as just another culture in the Milwaukee area. My father feels that he is “American” and not “Polish” at all. Now I look back and find that I am ashamed at that distance. I am Polish-American and so are the people I grew up with. My friends and I are re-establishing ourselves as POLISH-American. We have been talking amongst ourselves about Polish customs, heritage, and ancestry. Friends of mine are now asking or talking about Polish history in Milwaukee…I am not sure if I can take complete credit within my social circle for this renewed interest, but I do feel that my “Polish” push is taking affect! Maybe, Milwaukee will soon realize that its Polish influence is more than just a passing interest..
Best Regards,
Al
