Book Review – The Kulturkampf in Prussian Poland
Hello,
I have just finished reading the book titled The Kulturkampf in Prussian Poland, written by Lech Trzeciakowski and translated by Katarzyna Kretkowska. The book was very interesting and informative. The book seemed to be written as a thesis or study on the culture war in Prussian Poland, between the years of 1872-1885. The book details the political, religious, and cultural ramifications due to the Germanization process undertaken by the German government towards the people living in what was Prussian Poland. The book reviews the laws and views of Germany during this time frame. The study is very in-depth and utilizes a wide array of historical resources that were available to the author. Also, the book explains the reactions of the people residing in Prussian Poland, along with the ultimate result of the policies that were implemented.
If anyone is looking to learn more about the Prussian government’s views on Germanization of the Polish people with Prussian Poland, I would suggest purchasing or loaning this book from a library. I read this book, in part, to better understand the area and time frame that my ancestors had come from. Hoping to see some of the reasons why my ancestors left Prussia/Germany to live in America. Plus, I love learning about history…Personally, I feel that reading The Kulturkampf in Prussian Poland, provided me with a an accurate account of the policies that had helped push my ancestors to America.
Now, I am onto the book called Iron Kingdom 1600-1947, written by Christopher Clark….Hopefully, I’ll have this finished in a few months, hopefully!
Best Regards,
Al
