Family History Center: Milwaukee, WI, 7-18-2009
Hello,
Today, I went to Milwaukee’s Family History Center, which is located in Hales Corners, Wisconsin. My friend Kirt had asked if I wanted to go with him, he is just starting to research his Polish ancestors and wanted to look through some films.
The Hales Corners location has an extensive collection of films dealing with Milwaukee, Prussia, Wisconsin, and many other areas. I went with, but did not have any plan of action. I was going to look for films of Chicago’s St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish, but they did not have any of the films. My next idea was to look for Milwaukee County Marriage Certificates for my Kobs ancestors. I hit the goldmine and found ten records in the 2 1/2 hours that we there.
I would like to extend my gratitude to the indexer that created the Milwaukee County Marriage Certificates index films. These films are priceless. I was able to search the indexes for both husband and wives surnames. The indexes are divided alphabetically and then by date range. I was able to scan each index and pinpoint the marriages I was searching for. Each marriage lists the marriage couple, date, volume, and record number.
After recording the marriages that I was searching for, I looked for the film by volume number and found the marriage records with ease. Then I scanned the records and saved them to my jump drive, so I have digital copies of the records.
I have used these indexes before, but I thought I would mention how excellent and easy to use that they are. Especially after having a successful visit to the Family History Center.
Below is one of the records that I had found. This is the marriage of my great-great grandparents Frank Kobs and Weronika Machajewska
