In a previous post titled, Straszewo Parish Marriage Record, I had commented on the possibility of tracking down my Tobiasz ancestors to their original village and parish. From the Russian language marriage record of Michał Tobiasz and Rozalia Nowak, I thought that the village of Michał’s birth was Biesiekierz that belonged to the Koneck Parish.
The other day the Koneck Parish films, that I had ordered, arrived at the Brookfield Family History Center. I took a couple hours to investigate the films and scan them onto my jump drive. During my initial pass through the films, I was unable to find the baptism of Michał Tobiasz or any of his potential siblings. Then I concentrated on scanning the records onto my jump drive, so I could investigate them further at my convenience. I was able to scan the baptisms from 1837-1852 and 1860-1861. Right before I left, I searched through the baptisms of 1862 and was happily surprised at what I had found.
One baptism in particular caught my eye from 1862. Below is that entry:

The record is a baptism of a Katarzyna Maliewska (I believe) and is not directly connected to my family…as of yet. The first highlight to take away from this record is that the baptism happened in the village of Biesiekierz, as seen below:

The next item of interest is that the godfather for Katarzyna is listed as one Ignacy Tobijasz (Tobiasz), picture is below:

This brings me closer to proving that my investigations have led me to the right village. Ignacy Tobiasz was the father Michał Tobiasz and my Russian translation of the village of Biesiekierz was correct. I went ahead and and ordered the Koneck baptism records for 1864-1877, which should include most of the children of Ignacy Tobiasz…….I hope. Now, I just need to find the time to continue the search…….
