My 2010 Genealogy Goals
Hello,
I am a little late in my writing and submission to the 87th Edition of the Carnival of Genealogy, but hopefully this article will make the cut…Below are my plans and goals for 2010.
1) Complete the Beginning Polish (Polish I) language class that is held at the Polish Center of Wisconsin and taught by Professor Michael Mikos. Hopefully the Polish Center of Wisconsin offers Polish II & III classes this year. If the classes are offered, my plan is to complete them as well.
2) Register for a 4 course package at the National Institute for Genealogy (thanks for pointing this out Antra!). This will include the following online classes: Research: Polish Ancestors, Research: German Ancestors, Genealogy and Copyright Guidelines, and US: Vital Records, Understanding & Using The Records. I am not sure if I will be able to finish them all this year, because of timing restraints.
3) Continue reading books that provide historical background and details about Poland and the rest of Central and Eastern Europe. Currently, I am finishing Norman Davies book called God’s Playground Vol.II. The next book that I am planning on reading is The Kulturkampf in Prussian Poland by Lech Trzeciakowski.
4) Organize and properly site all my records that are in my FTM 2010 program’s database. Going back and cleaning things up always seems the hardest part to accomplish…
5) Expand my genealogy research. This could be through records or through collaboration with other family researchers that may have overlapping information. No specific goals here, but as I establish them I will add them to my goal list.
6) Improve and add to my Słownik Geograficzny Królestwa Polskiego translations. I would like to complete the translations for the Kujawy and Kaszubi regions of Poland where my ancestors lived. I need to go back and correct any mistakes or add pieces of history that I may have skipped initially.
I am sure that these goals will not be exclusive, but they are at least a start of a plan that I can put into action.
Best Regards,
Al
