Kwasniewski Collection – UWM Digital Archives
Hello,
Another of the UW-Milwaukee’s collections that were discussed at the Polish Institute of Arts & Sciences of America’s annual conference, that was held in Milwaukee earlier this month, was the Roman Kwasniewski Collection.
Roman Kwasniewski owned and operated a photograph studio on Milwaukee’s Polish south side. Kwasniewski’s photos span from 1911 – 1947 and capture the events and social life of Milwaukee’s Polonia. The collection includes family portraits, residential and business photographs, and various other social events from Milwaukee’s Polonia (UWM Digital Collections, Finding Aid of the Roman B.J. Kwasniewski Photographs (1907-1947), 2010).
The UWM Digital Collections Archive is working to digitize and index this collection. There are over 25,000 negatives and 5,000 prints in this collection (UWM Digital Collections, Finding Aid of the Roman B.J. Kwasniewski Photographs (1907-1947), 2010). Currently, there are 251 images available on UWM’s AGSL Digital Photo Archive. The available images can be found here: Roman Kwasniewski Collection
Greater detail about the Roman Kwasniewski Collection can be found here: Finding Aid of the Roman B.J. Kwasniewski Photographs (1907-1947)
I am looking forward to the completion of this vast undertaking. Once this project is completed, greater insight to Milwaukee’s Polonia will be available for generations to come.
Best Regards,
Al
