1772/1773 West Prussian Land Register Webiste

I would like to share a link to a website that contains indexes of the West Prussian Land Register of 1772/1773. The website was created and is maintained by the Odessa Digital Library, which is a German-Russian Genealogical Library. Here is the link to the indexes: West Prussian Land Register of 1772/1773.

After the First Partition of Poland, the Prussian Government performed a land survey. The survey included the name of the head of the household, the number of adults in the house, the number of children over 12, the number of children under 12, the number of hired male workers, the amount of hired female workers, and the total number of people residing at the residence. The survey also recorded the number of animals, machinery, etc. The records were copied with a typewriter and indexed. The Odessa Digital Library has the index alphabetically listed on their website. Image copies of the typed entries can be obtained for a nominal fee, from the Germans from Russia Heritage Society. This index is useful if you already known the German named location of your ancestors from West Prussia or it could be helpful to narrow down a possible village location of your ancestors (used in conjunction with church records).
