The Late 1600’s….Koscierzyna P1- Project: My Kashubian Roots Part 1
Hello,
From the available parish records, the villages of Korne and Owśnice that belong to the Kościerzyna Parish are the furthest back that Wierzba’s can be found in the area of my research. In my previous post titled “The Beginnings….Koscierzyna – Project: My Kashubian Roots Part 1“, I listed out the records for oldest Wierzba family that I had found so far.
Now I’d like to move forward through the remaining Kościerzyna records until 1697. The parish records that I’ll utilize are births (1670-1693) and marriages (1668-1697). The Stężyca Parish records cover births (1691-1700), but I didn’t find a Wierzba baptism. So, I will keep my focus on Kościerzyna for this time frame.
The first record that can be found is the marriage of Wojciech Wierzba and Anna Pęk in the city of Kościerzyna in 1670 (and in 1671, as the record was duplicated in both years).
Marriage of Wojciech Wierzba and Anna Pęk (1670)
Kościerzyna Catholic Parish (Kościerzyna, Pomorskie, Poland). Sluby, 1668-1697. Diecezja Pelplińska, Pomorskie, Poland. Stanley Frymark, CD: Kościerzyna W48 Sluby 1668-1697; W48, Skan. Kościerzyna Parish Marriage Records. 1670. Kościerzyna, Kościerzyna, Pomorskie, Poland.
The couple would have 4 children between 1671-1679 in the city of Kościerzyna.
1671: Elżbieta Wierzba
1674: Paweł Wierzba
1677: Andrzej Wierzba
1679: Małgorzata Wierzba
After 1698, the parish records for Kościerzyna stop and do not start again until 1720 for baptisms. So, it is difficult to tell what happened to this family and if any of its member lived on or not. There was a “one-off” baptism in the Goręczyno Parish in 1703, for a Paweł and Ewa Wierzba. But, just from that record I cannot determine if there is a connection. Again, more questions than answers. Another interesting fact is that there were no other Wierzba family members listed as Godparents or Witnesses to any of the records mentioned above.
