Michał Tobiasz was born in the village of Biesiekierz (1), about 1862, to his parents Ignacy Tobiasz and Zofia Karpik. By 1868, the Ignacy Tobiasz family were once again residents of the village of Adolfin (2). Ignacy continued working as a farmhand until his death on November 28, 1868.
Sometime before October 1885, Michał moved to the village of Zakrzewo (3) where he met his future wife Rozalia Świercz nee Nowak. Rozalia was widowed on May 13, 1883 in the village of Zakrzewo. Rozalia had at least one son (Józef) with Tomasz Świercz before he died. Michał and Rozalia would marry on October 18, 1885, in the village of Zakrzewo.

From 1886 to about 1889, Michał and Rozalia would reside in the village of Zakrzewo. Michał worked as a laborer. On November 17, 1886, Michał and Rozalia had their first child, Maryanna. His brother Mateusz was a godparent for this baptism. Around 1887, the couple would give birth to a son named Franciszek (I haven’t been able to locate the birth record in the Straszewo Parish – I’ll investigate the following parishes: Straszewo, Koneck, Ostrowąs, and Siniarzewo).
From 1886 to about 1889, Michał and Rozalia would reside in the village of Zakrzewo. Michał worked as a laborer. During this time, the couple had at least 1 child. On November 17, 1886, Michał and Rozalia had their first child, Maryanna. His brother Mateusz was a godparent for this baptism.
Before mid-summer of 1889, Michał and his family would move to the village of Straszewo (4). The couple would give birth to their son Jan Tobiasz (my great-grandfather), who was born on July 2, 1889.
Sometime before November 1891, Michał and his family would move back to the village of Zakrzewo. On November 18, 1891, the couple had another son, Adam. Wojciech and Antonina Nowak were the godparents. At the least, Wojciech was a sibling to Rozalia. Almost two years later, Adam would die in the village of Zakrzewo, on June 4, 1893.
On May 19, 1894, in the village of Zakrzewo, Michał and Rozalia had a daughter named Antonina. Wojciech Nowak was the godfather.

Around 1896, Michał and Rozalia moved to the village of Plebanka (5). The village of Plebanka is located north of Straszewo and belongs to the Ostrowąs Parish. On March 17, 1896, their daughter Antonina died in the village of Pleblanka. She was almost 2 years old. Tragedy would strike again. On October 13, 1897, their oldest son Franciszek, would die in the village of Plebanka. He was 10 years old. During 1896-1898, Michał and Rozalia, may have moved around between a few villages and parishes. During this time they had a son named Bronisław.
Around 1897, Michał and Rozalia, may have moved to another village and parish. During this time they had a son named Bronisław. There is a gap in the records that I’ve found, from 1894-1904. On September 18, 1904, Bronisław died in the village of Zakrzewo. He was 3 years old. I’ve been having trouble translating the place of birth that is listed on his death record. As I was writing this post, I tried to decipher the village name again. I’m not sure about the first letter, but the rest of the village name is “?”lebank. There is a village named “Plebanka” (5) which is north of Straszewo, in the Ostrowąs Parish. There is another Plebanka located to the east, belonging to the Nieszawa Parish. The first letter doesn’t look like a Russian “P” though, but this lead is worth a try.

By the end of 1900, Michał and Rozalia would move the family to the village of Zapustek (6). The village is located about a mile west of the village of Koneck. On October 8, 1900, the couple gave birth to a son named Stanisław. (I have not found the birth record, but will look in the following parishes: Straszewo and Koneck).
Sometime in 1903, the family was located in the village of Gęsin (7). The village of Gęsin is located about 1.5 miles southwest of the village of Zapustek and about 1.5 miles northeast of the village of Zakrzewo. On November 1, 1903, the couple gave birth to a son named Szczepan. (I have not found the birth record, but will look in the following parishes: Siniarzewo, Straszewo and Koneck). On my great-grandfathers, Jan/John Tobiasz, obituary, it lists a brother who resided in Poland named Stephan/Szczepan.
During the years between 1894-1904, the couple may have had more children. On my great-grandfathers, Jan/John Tobiasz, obituary, it lists a brother who resided in Poland named Stephan/Szczepan.
– UPDATED INFO –
The couple moved their family back to the village of Zakrzewo around 1904. On September 18, 1904, Bronisław died in the village of Zakrzewo. He was 3 years old.
The family resided in Zakzrewo until Michał’s death on February 15, 1905. I assume that the remaining family continued to reside in Zakrzewo until Rozalia died or the children grew older and moved away. My great-grandfather, Jan, left for America in 1909, where he went to meet his half-brother Józef and his uncle Wojciech Nowak in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (8).
