Wierzba Arrives in America on 7-13-1861
Hello,
I have just stumbled onto an exciting discovery for my Wierzba Ancestry and family history. First, I will provide some background and tie in previous posts.
In post: http://polishamericangenealogy.blogspot.com/2008/06/lipusz-parish-baptismals-bartlomiej.html, I listed all of the baptisms of Bartlomeij Wierzba and Rozalia Knopik from the Lipusz Parish.
In post: http://polishamericangenealogy.blogspot.com/2008/05/wierzba-arriving-in-america-june-1872.html, I listed the history of the Wierzbas arriving in America in June 1872.
I was talking to a Wierzba cousin from Marathon County and we determined that it would be valuable to search for the Bartlomeij and Rozalia’s daughters in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We thought that it seemed as though the Wierzba’s came to Milwaukee in 1872 and then boardered at or near a relative. Of Course this was only an assumption.
I looked through my index of Wierzba baptisms from the Lipusz Parish, to determine if any of Bartlomeij and Rozalia’s daughters may have left for America with their husbands and/or families. This can be tricky because not every daughter had children and a few may have been married without children. Without the Lipusz Parish marriage records, I can not dig that deep at this time.
The married Wierzba daughters (with their husbands) that had children that I have indexed are:
1839: Jacob Stolzmann and Victoria Wierzba
1840: Jan Cybulski and Barbara Wierzba
1841: Jozef Machutt and Anna Wierzba
1855: Marcin Kulas and Julianna Wierzba
1859: Jozef Nyl~a and Josephina Wierzba
1862: Franz Cubulski and Katarzyna Wierzba
The dates above are representing the first year they had a child baptised. Also, the two Wierzba daughters of Bartlomeij and Rozalia that were not baptising children in the Lipusz Parish are: Magdelina and Thersea.
Findings:
I have found the passenger list of Martin (Marcin) Kulas and family (Julianna, Nicoli, Elizabeta, and Jan). All of the ages given on the passenger list match the indexed Lipusz Parish baptisms. I have also found both the 1870 and 1880 US Census records from Milwaukee County.
On the Links To The Past website, I was also able to find indexed death notices for both Martin and Julianna. Martin’s obituary is listed in Kuryer Polksi and Julia’s death record is located in the St. Stanislaus Parish films. According to the index, Julia was born in 1829 in the Lipusz Parish.

Julianna: http://www.linkstothepast.com/milwaukee/65.php
I will need to gather more sources for more information. I will also try to find copies of both death notices.
I am very happy with these findings and I am going to continue to dig deeper.
Best Regards,
Al
