Marcin Kulas and Julianna Wierzba: From Tuszkowy to Milwaukee

In my previous post I stated that I had found a paper trail that marked the arrival of the first of my Wierzba ancestors in America on July 13, 1861. I would like to post the records that I have found.

1)

The record above is the first baptism entry of Julianna Wierzba from the village of Tuszkowy. On October 5, 1853, she baptized her son Franciszek Wierzba, with Fransiczek Wierzba and Marianna Nawroth as Godparents. Julianna’s son Franciszek died as a child. His death record states Julianna Kulas as his mother.

On February 24, 1855, Marcin Kulas and Julianna Wierzba, from the village of Tuszkowy, baptized Nicoli Kulas. Nicoli’s Godparents were Jozef Kulas and Rozalia Wierzba.

3)

On November 22, 1857, Marcin Kulas and Julianna Wierzba, from the village of Tuszkowy, baptized Elzbieta Kulas. Elzbieta’s Godparents were Franciszek and Rozalia Wierzba.

On November 22, 1857, Marcin Kulas and Julianna Wierzba, from the village of Tuszkowy, baptized Jan Kulas. Jan’s Godparents were Wincenty and Jozefa Wierzba.

5)

On July 13, 1861, Marcin Kulas, age 33, and family (Julianna 32, Nicoli 5, Elzbieta 3, and Jan 4 months) arrived in America on board the passenger ship Arcole from Germany.

6)

In 1870, Martin Kulas, age 43, and family (Julianna 42, Nicoli 14, Elzbieta 12, Jan 8, August 5, and Martin 3 were living on Milwaukee, Wisconsin’s south side in Ward 8. The only discrepancy that I have seen is that Jan is listed as being born in Wisconsin and not Tuszkowy, Poland. This had to have been an error by the census taker.

On December 20, 1870, Marcin Kulas and Julianna Wierzba, from Milwaukee, baptized Anna Kulas.

This last baptism record from St. Stanislaus Parish, in Milwaukee, WI, was the connection I needed to solidify my theory that this was the same family from the Lipusz Parish. I will continue to search through the St. Stanislaus Parish records to find the rest of the baptism, marriage, and death records.
