Indexing Project – Geneteka Part Three
In a previous post, from the Indexing Project – Geneteka series, I left off describing how to navigate through the Genetaka website by using the menu bar. Part Three of the series will demonstrate how to perform a search on the Geneteka site.
There are a few different ways to begin a search, so I will concentrate on one. To perform this search, I am assuming that the researcher knows which województwo (voivodeship) that their ancestor came from.
After entering the Geneteka website you will notice that the homepage is the screenshot below:
The next step is to select the województwo (voivodeship) that you’d like to search for your ancestor’s marriage/death/baptismal record within. In this example I will search through województwo Kujawsko-Pomorskie. After I have made this selection the next page will load, as seen below:
On the search screen above there are some terms that I will attempt to define.
Księga = Church book or record type
Nazwisko = Name
Wyszukiwanie dokładne = Exact search
od roku = Beginning date
do roku = Ending date
pozycji na stronie = Items displayed per page
Wyszukaj = Search
In the screenshot below, I have expanded the drop-down menu. The terms and their meanings are listed below:
Księga drop-down menu terms:
Wszystkie – wszystkie księgi = Search all church books
Urodzenia (B) – wszystkie księgi = Search baptismal books/records
Zgony (D) – wszystkie księgi = Search death books/records
Małżeństwa (S) wszystkie księgi = Search marriage books/records
In my example, I have selected Wszystkie – wszystkie księgi and entered the surname “Kowalski” into the box called Nazwisko. Then I selected Wyszukaj (the search button).
The screenshot below lists the results of my search for the surname “Kowalski”.
………………..To be continued in my upcoming post called Indexing Project – Geneteka Part Four.
